I need more storage so that…

About 5 years back I had built my first box.It had an Intel Pentium III @ 933Mhz processor , 256 Ram and had 40GB Seagate Harddrive and it used to run Windows Me. My requirement duing that time was quite less so 40GB used to be quite big. Since then I have built two more boxes having different processors, ram, graphics card etc but one thing remained common in all of them. That one thing was my 40GB Seagate Drive. Recently the drive died with it being very old. I will be honest but I saw this coming and luckily I had backed all my 40 GB of data on DVD-R’s. The day the drive died, I ordered another harddrive. It was a Seagate Barracuda 160GB SATA drive.

Fast Forward Today:-

I am running Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition which I got free as I am an active beta tester. I test more than 20 softwares of Microsoft alone plus softwares from other companies. I have more than 10 different virtual OS installations which are used regularly for testing different softwares for bugs. So my diskspace requirement is quite high. Besides i also use Windows Media Centre with my xbox360 so my pc also records all my tv shows and movies when i am not around. Ofcourse the data is moved regularly with junk being deleted and other content being archived in some part of the hdd. I have more than 20 GB of music which is often streamed to the xbox360 so that I can listen when I am playing games.

I have more than 2000 digital photographs plus about 20 home made videos which consume about 5 GB space.

Orignal DVD’s are also ripped and encoded and are kept in the harddrive so that they can be streamed to any part of the house easily. This Pc also acts as a server hence it stores many db’s too.

This is the breakdown of my 160GB HDD [Only 149GB can be used]

C:\ = The entire drive has been given to Windows Vista, other softwares and game installations.

D:\ = All My photographs, videos and other documents are stored in it.

E:\ = This drive is dedicated to Media Centre for recording any tv/movie/music etc, the data is cycled. I also store my other beta softwares, virtual OS’es etc over there.

With the installation size and the size of the media content increasing rapidly it will only be a matter of time before I run out of diskspace which means I might have to buy a new hard drive. With the requirements of the Operating System increasing rapidly in the near future the entire 160GB harddrive could be dedicated to the Operating System.

The Road Not Taken

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; 5
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same, 10
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back. 15
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Picture of the Month

So Ladies and Gentemen, I am proud to announce that the picture of the month award goes to my good friend Computerkiller. 🙂 Hope you like him and his wii 😉

A few months back Xbox 360 was launched in India. Thanks to Microsoft, India can now be officially considered as a gaming zone too. With Microsoft introducing their console in a place like India, chances are that Sony and Nintendo might follow soon. In August i had made a blog post offering some exclusive details about xbox360 that would help my fellow indians. This was a big success with the blog post alone having more than 10,000 hits and still. A few members including me tried helping people but we still needed a better place. Xbox India forums became this place but soon it just became a drab place with too many rules and injustice.

Today it gives me a great honour to introduce to a website which is run by the Indian gamers and primary aims at Xbox 360. This is the forum where xbox360 owners (Indians) discuss their problems, guides, gaming strategies and other things. The forum is barely 1 month old and already boasts of more than 150 members having more than 2700 posts. While the name of the website might make you feel that its only about xbox360 but you are free to discuss about anything including PS3, Wii and yes!! you can also bitch about Microsoft India ;).

I highly recommend this website.

A box

Today when i came back from edu, i saw a small box was lying on my bed. Clearly it was delivered by a courier guy. Now usually whenever i get couriers, i get pretty excited especially when i dont know about it in advance. The box was brown in color and indicated that it had come from Microsoft. I got a bit excited thinking that it had come from Microsoft USA bringing me some goodies either from the Windows Vista Team or from some other beta 😉 🙂 . So at once i took out my victorinox and started ripping the box.It was quite painful but i love opening such stuffs 🙂 . The below image will show what was there inside the box. I love freebies but then who doesnt ? 😛

a box

Now dont be fooled by the box like i was. So yea! i basically got Viva Pinata and Gears of War for free from my Microsoft friend 🙂 Now i have two copies of Gears of War. What i will be doing with the second copy of GoW is upto me 🙂

New Day

Coming Soon To a Desktop Near You

The Picture of a computer screen provided by Microsoft is expected to become on of the most-viewed images in the world. Once the software giant releases Windows Vista, its new operating system. The OS’ much touted feature, the windows sidebar can be seen on the right side. This could be the biggest flop in the history of Microsoft or maybe the biggest hit.

The Business launch has already taken place yesterday ie 30th November

with the officially copy of Windows Vista for Home consumers to be launched in less than 59 days from today.
